Halloween 2018 Schedule

October 30, 2018

Dear Fernway Families,

Unfortunately the forecast for tomorrow is calling for rain during our planned Halloween Parade.  In conjunction with the PTO, we are providing a schedule in the event of rain. Tomorrow by 11:30 a.m. we will decide if we are going to switch to an indoor parade and party plan for all three schools.  The indoor plan has been developed with the mindset that our parents with kids in multiple schools might be able to experience the parade portion at Woodbury and either Onaway or Boulevard.  We recognize that this isn’t a perfect plan, but unfortunately the weather isn’t helping our situation. As always, we will make accommodations for students who do not celebrate Halloween.

The staff at Fernway is emphatic about stressing its commitment to nonviolence.  The students are encouraged to create costumes of their own design, and to avoid purchasing costumes which depict characters that are portrayed as violent or anti-social. Children may use face make-up, but masks will not be allowed for obvious safety reasons.  I’m looking forward to us having a great Halloween and appreciate all your support through the process of trying to make this the best situation for all of our families.

Sincerely,

Christopher C. Hayward, Principal

**Note:  Ohio law, a Shaker Heights City ordinance, and school policy forbids toy weapons on school property.  This means no toy guns, knives, swords, chains, hatchets, etc., should ever be brought to school - even on Halloween.
