Upcoming Events

Back to School Ice Cream Social at Ludlow—Friday, August 23, 2019, 6:00-7:30pm. Join the Onaway community for a block party style event that will include music, yard games, and ice cream treats for all! The event is located outside the Ludlow building located at the intersection of Ludlow and Southington Road.

Parent Open House/Curriculum Night—Thursday, August 29, 2019, 7:00pm. This important evening event, for parents and guardians only, provides a wonderful opportunity to visit your child's classroom, meet the teacher and learn about the curriculum. There will also be sign-up sheets for in-class volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Please plan to attend!

Community Conversation—Wednesday, September 4, 2019, 7:00pm, Onaway Library. Join us for the first part of our series, Living in Community: Looking Back and Moving Forward. These conversatioons are designed to bring parents and caregivers with different perspectives together in an open and supportive community to talk about issues that affect Shaker students.

PTO Meeting—Wednesday, September 18, 2019, 7:00-8:30pm, Onaway Library. Please join us for the first PTO meeting of of the school year. Come learn about what is happening at Onaway and voice your ideas, hopes and concerns. Childcare will be provided in the multi-purpose room and the meeting will be held in the school library.

Fall Family Picnic - Harvest Dinner—Thursday, September 19, 2019, 6:00-8:00pm. This informal gathering of our school community provides an opportunity to meet Onaway families and to connect with Onaway teachers and staff. We will provide a locally-sourced dinner for all.

The 4th Annual Onaway Olympics—Monday, September 23 - Friday, September 27, 2019. The Onaway Olympics is the main fundraiser of the Onaway PTO. The Onaway Olympics builds excitement, school spirit and camaraderie as our children play, exercise and have fun throughout the week. Parents, guardians and family are welcome to attend the opening ceremonies on Monday, 9/23, at 9:30am and the closing ceremonies on Friday, 9/27 at 2:15pm.

Community Speakers—Wednesday, October 2, 2019, 7:00pm in the Onaway Library. Join us for the first part of our series, Your Student, Inside and Outside the Classroom: Understanding Curriculum and Student Success in Shaker Schools. These meetings are designed for caregivers and teachers to come together and listen to panelists discuss topics regarding the Shaker School District.

Pumpkinfest—Saturday, October 5, 2019, 10:00am - 12:00pm. Join the whole school to celebrate fall during this annual harvest festival. There will be activities, refreshments and of course, pumpkins for sale!


Onaway Olympics 2018 (our school’s one and only fundraiser) was a huge success thanks to the generosity of our wonderful community! 

This fundraiser along with generous donations, both monetary and of time and effort provide meaningful support for each and every Onaway student through the many trips, programs, and items listed here and many others.

  • Kindergarten field trip to Lake Farm Park
  • First grade field trip to and tour of Terminal Tour
  • Second grade field trip to and tour of Van Aken Development
  • Third grade field trip to Lakeview Cemetery
  • Artist in Residence program for all K-4 students
  • Support for COSI program through Shaker Schools Foundation grant
  • Purchase of 12 IPad keyboards/cases and a charging cart
  • Fourth grade Just Around the Corner program
  • Purchase of learning tools for Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms
  • Support for Garden Club
  • Support for Chess Club
  • Onaway Little Theater
  • Fall Family Picnic
  • Spring Carnival
  • Fourth grade Memory Books
  • Books for every classroom from proceeds of the Book Fair
  • A book for every student on his/her birthday
