Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families,
Welcome back! I hope you have had a great summer and are relaxed, recharged and ready to begin an amazing 2021-2022 school year! I am excited and optimistic about the year ahead of us.
We are grateful that we can begin this school year in person, five days a week. In-person instruction is the best and most beneficial learning model for our students. To ensure that in-person instruction continues, we will require masks for all students and staff while indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Please review our health and safety guidelines
for more information.
Our theme this year is “Shaker Rising: Creating Our Future.” This theme means that we must have high expectations that will ensure high achievement and growth for each student. It means that we must provide all students with IB-aligned learning experiences where students work collaboratively in teams and use technology tools to solve real world problems. It means that we must push all of our students to rise to their best with a rigorous and challenging curriculum. It means that we must serve all of our learners, whether they are struggling or advanced.
“Shaker Rising: Creating Our Future” also signifies that we are embarking on a joint facilities long-term planning effort with the city and the library to re-imagine our learning spaces. As part of this process, we must consider whether we need to renovate or build new school buildings to better support student learning in the future. You will hear more about this effort during the coming school year.
Finally, thank you for the many emails and personal conversations I’ve had with so many of you over the summer. Your feedback has informed our plans for this school year. As always, we are continuing to work to address our challenges and improve on our strengths.
Thank you again for your support and commitment to public education. Together, we will make this a truly outstanding school year.
Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
