The Shaker Heights City School District is sending this email as a notification of important COVID-19-related information. The Daily COVID-19 Update will be sent each weekday evening excluding holidays when District offices are closed.

Cuyahoga County Returns to Level 3

This afternoon, Gov. Mike DeWine announced that Cuyahoga County has returned to a Level 3 (Red) on the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. As a result, the District is evaluating our instructional plans for a return to onsite learning. We will share additional information as soon as it becomes available. 

New Cases

Today, the District received reports of three new positive students and one presumed positive student. For more information, please visit the District’s online COVID-19 Dashboard. The Dashboard is updated weekdays at 4 p.m. excluding holidays when District offices are closed.

Case Details

  • One of the students participates in District athletics and last participated in a team event ten days ago. 

  • None of the four students has been present in a District building.

  • The students will be isolated for a period of 10 days and until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours.

Health and Safety

Please be sure to review the District’s staff and student health and safety protocols.

CDC Recommendations

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. 

  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. 

  • Avoid close contact with those who are sick. 

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve. 

  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose. 

  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects. 

  • Stay at home when you are sick.

  • Practice social distancing, leaving at least six feet between you and other people. 

  • Wear a cloth mask in public when you cannot social distance.

Travel Advisory

Staff and families who plan to travel out-of-state are advised to refer to the state of Ohio’s COVID-19 Travel Advisory webpage for the latest information on self-quarantining recommendations by state. Persons entering Ohio after traveling to states reporting positive COVID-19 testing rates of 15% or higher are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.
