District Cancels SELF Programming for Summer 2020

May 8, 2020—It is with deep regret that the Shaker Heights Schools finds it necessary to cancel in-building Summer Enrichment Learning and Fun (SELF) programming for Summer 2020. The decision was made necessary by the April 29 Ohio Department of Health order that requires all Ohio K-12 schools to remain closed to students through June 30. Please be aware of the following:
  • The District will issue refunds for all payments, and families can expect a refund on the credit card used to make the original payment within 10 business days.
  • The District is exploring ways to provide virtual programming with an emphasis on academic intervention and recovery.  We anticipate these offerings will be available in early July. We expect to share details on these opportunities soon.
  • Extended School Year (ESY) services as determined by students' IEP teams will not be impacted by the cancellation of SELF.  These services will be offered on an individualized basis via distance learning.
  • Online credit recovery for high school students who are credit deficient will begin the week of June 15.

We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause our families. Considering the current stay-at-home order and the state’s deliberate and cautious approach to reopening, we understand that it will be more challenging for our families to find ways to engage their children this summer. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
