Matthew Simon Named New Coordinator of the Innovative Center for Personalized Learning

Matt SimonAugust 18, 2020—Shaker Heights Schools has named Matthew Simon as Coordinator of the Innovative Center for Personalized Learning. 


Most recently, Mr. Simon was a Leadership Coach/School Improvement Coach at Promise Academy High School in Cleveland where he provided ongoing strengths-based, data-driven coaching to the Principal and Teacher Leaders on improving school culture and academic performance. Prior to that, he was the Administrator for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE), where he oversaw professional learning, curriculum, instruction and assessment for more than 20 alternative high schools in San Diego County. Mr. Simon also worked as a teacher at High Tech High, a California-based school network founded on the belief that technology should be integrated into every course as a means of helping students develop a deeper understanding of relevant issues and to help students share their learning with an audience beyond the classroom.

We’re excited to leverage the wealth of experience that Matt will bring to our students and families,” says Shaker Heights Schools Chief Academic Officer Marla Robinson. “His work at High Tech High as a teacher, combined with his expertise in curriculum makes him ideally suited for this important position.”


Mr. Simon earned a bachelor’s degree in film and television from New York University and his master’s degree in education leadership from Claremont Consortium of Colleges, Claremont Graduate University.


Mr. Simon lives in Shaker Heights with his wife Meghan, their nine-month old son Arlo, and their two rescue dogs Lena and Lewis.
