Faculty and Staff Return-to-Work Plans

August 10, 2020

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Stakeholders,

As we continue to prepare for students to begin the 2020-2021 school year, the District is launching a phased-in return-to-work process for employees to start the 2020-21 school year. Our plan begins with a voluntary (Phase 1) approach to returning to work for employees. We will move to Phase 2 after continuous monitoring of Phase 1 and when it is deemed appropriate for all employees to return to work on site.

The implementation of Phase 2 is aligned with our goal of bringing our students back to in-person classes.

We have released a draft document titled Staff Health, Safety, Screening & Absence Guidelines which outlines protocols for a safe and healthy return-to-work for our employees and students.  These guidelines were developed based on local, state and federal health agency guidance.

Details of the phased-in, return-to-work process are as follows:

Phase 1

This phase involves voluntary on-site work for employees beginning the week of August 17. Phase 1 will be continuously monitored and the District will move to Phase 2 when appropriate.

Phase 2

This phase requires all staff to report to work on site, except for those employees who have a medical exemption that would prevent them from returning to work in-person.

We believe this process will allow for a safe and orderly return to work for our employees, a strong and robust remote learning experience for our students and the eventual return of our students in-person to their classrooms.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent

Shaker Heights City School District
