Graves County High School junior Torii Doran will have a busy summer, as she approaches her senior year. She recently was selected to serve as the Cadet Battalion Commander of the Graves County High School Army JROTC program for the 2018-19 school year. Cadet Doran is the first female to serve as the top cadet in the program's six-year history.

Doran recently was selected to participate in the prestigious U.S. Air Force Academy's summer seminar in Colorado Springs, Colo., and also in the U.S. Army's West Point Summer Leadership Experience on its campus in New York. Doran also will attend the six-week Governor's Scholar Program and then Girls State.

"Torii has been accepted into every summer program to which she has applied,” said Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jason Caldwell, the adult leader of the Graves High Army JROTC. “It's rare that a student is selected to attend the summer programs at the service academies. In fact, only one is selected out of every six who apply. Additionally, to be accepted by both the Air Force Academy and West Point speaks volumes about her outstanding performance to date.”

Caldwell concluded, “She currently leads her high school junior class academically. She takes challenging classes and keeps a perfect grade point average and she recently scored a 28 on her ACT. Couple her academic achievements with her involvement in JROTC, as a four-year member of our Raider competition team and now as the Battalion Commander and it’s clear she is an excellent candidate for this country’s military service academies. Her parents, Mark and Terri Doran, did a great job of raising Torii and we all are very proud of her accomplishments and willingness to serve.”
