Family Engagement Series Begins September 30

The new Family Engagement Center is kicking off a series of programs for parents and guardians on September 30, with a presentation on various ways to look at school quality.

The event takes place on September 30 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium. Speakers will provide overviews of the state report card and other quality indicators, changing state requirements, and the District's strategic plan. A question-and-answer session will follow. The session is open to the public and free of charge.

Speakers will include Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr., Superintendent; Lynne Kulich, Director of Curriculum; Dale Whittington, Director of Research and Accountability; and Ouimet Smith, Director of Student Affairs.

The Family Engagement Center is a joint project of the School District and PTO Council. Its objective is to provide resources to parents and guardians and to foster their involvement in their children's education. Still a work in progress, the center has space in the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Building, alongside the new Innovative Center for Personalized Learning.

“We are very excited about collaborating with the District on this project,” says Tracy Peebles, who is PTO Council co-president with Jeff Isaacs. “The topics promise to be enlightening and instrumental in engaging families in the holistic educational approach found in Shaker Heights.”

The second event in the series, addressing family wellness, is scheduled for January 8. Watch for more details on this and future events.
