Dr. Meghan Shelby Named Director of Student Services

Dr. Meghan ShelbyMay 22, 2024 — Dr. Meghan Shelby has been named Director of Student Services, effective July 1, 2024. Her appointment was approved by the Board of Education Tuesday. 
 
She succeeds Elizabeth Kimmel, Director of Exceptional Children, who is moving out of state.
 
Dr. Shelby is currently Director of Special Pupil Services for the Maple Heights City School District, where she manages all special education programs and services, district nursing services, foster care services and coordinates the district’s crisis response team. During her time in Maple Heights, Dr. Shelby was instrumental in expanding social-emotional support for students. She also provided the support necessary to enable students with disabilities to learn in the least restrictive environment.   
 
“We are delighted that Dr. Shelby is joining our leadership team,” said Superintendent Dr. David Glasner. “She has a strong track record of developing effective structures to address barriers that students and families face, such as mental health, trauma, poverty and access to health care.
 
“We also thank Elizabeth Kimmel for her years of outstanding work,” Dr. Glasner added. “Her commitment to our most vulnerable students will have a lasting impact on our school community. She will be missed.”
 
Dr. Shelby earned a Ph.D. in school psychology and a master’s degree in school psychology from the University of South Carolina. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ohio State University. She has served as past president of both the Ohio School Psychology Association and the Cleveland Association of School Psychologists. 
 
Dr. Shelby has resided in Shaker Heights for 20 years, with both of her children graduating from the District.
