Dr. Felecia M. Evans Named Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

May 22, 2024 — Dr. Felecia M. Evans has been named Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, effective July 1, 2024. The Board of Education approved her appointment Tuesday. 

The Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching will play a pivotal role in ensuring the academic success and growth of students throughout the District. Working closely with the superintendent and and other administrative leaders, the position provides strategic direction, leadership and support in the development and implementation of educational programs and initiatives.

In her new role, Dr. Evans’ specific duties will include overseeing the Learning & Teaching Department, including supervision of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Director of Student Services. She will continue to supervise, support and evaluate all seven District principals.

Dr. Evans has served as Director of School Leadership since 2022. In that role, she has provided leadership and support to school principals to strengthen and develop them as building and instructional leaders. She has partnered with principals to implement equity-driven improvement cycles that include data-driven practices such as data meetings, action plans and intervention systems. She has also worked individually with principals to support an IB-aligned equity-focused culture, improvement of instructional practices, allocation of resources and  management of systems and structures.

Additionally, Dr. Evans has led several major District initiatives, including facilitation of a District Facilities Task Force and creation of a District cell phone usage policy.

“This promotion recognizes and reflects the large and significant leadership role Dr. Evans has taken on in the District,” Superintendent Dr. David Glasner said.

Before coming to Shaker Heights, Dr. Evans served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal and principal in the Mayfield City School District, the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District and the Solon City School District. She also serves as president-elect and on the executive board of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators, where she advocates for thousands of school leaders across the state.

Dr. Evans earned a doctorate of education in education leadership from Concordia University in Chicago. She earned a master’s degree in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree in middle childhood education from the University of Akron. She completed her superintendent coursework at Ashland University. Originally from Minneapolis, Dr. Evans played Division I basketball at the University of Akron.
