February 2020 | Woodbury Fifth-Grade Student Bobby Mossing Named Finalist in Film Festival

Bobby Mossing“Late for School,” a film by Woodbury fifth-grader Bobby Mossing, is a finalist for the People’s Choice Award in this year’s fourth annual Kids Film It Festival, which takes place February 21 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bobby has been playing around with video for a while, but just started making films this past year. We suspect this won't be his last.  Read more about Bobby Mossing and watch his film below:

How did you get interested in filmmaking?
I got interested in filmmaking by watching Youtube videos and I liked how the Youtubers made and edited the videos, so I decided to try it myself.

How did you get the idea for Late for School?
I got the idea to make "Late For School" by brainstorming and thinking about what I should make it about and then I tripped and fell and got the idea to make a video about the main character being clumsy and falling out of his bed.

Did you encounter any unforeseen problems?
A problem I faced was when I wanted to have the kid in the film be very clumsy—like falling down the stairs and off the bike—but that might have hurt if I did all those things, so I settled on falling out of my bed and brushing my teeth with soap.

How did you learn how to make films?
I didn't really learn how to make films. I just taught myself. I had been filling SD cards with funny videos for years. I am good with computers so the editing wasn't hard to learn.

What else would you like to learn to help improve your films?
I would like to learn more about using a microphone and other things like that to enhance the video.

If you win the top award at the festival, who would you thank in your acceptance speech?
I would thank my friend, Christy because he helped me record and he also gave me a lot of great suggestions.
