An Invitation to Apply for the Equity Policy Implementation Team

November 8, 2019—This past spring, the Shaker Heights Board of Education approved the District’s first Educational Equity Policy with considerable input from the Equity Task Force. The policy states:

Educational equity is based on the principles of fairness and justice in allocating resources, opportunity, treatment and creating success for each student. Achieving equity means students’ identities will not predetermine or predict school success. The Board believes that expanding opportunities for students who have been historically marginalized will enrich the overall development of all students.

Today, we are ready to take the next step—and we want your help. 

The District invites you to apply to serve as a member of the Equity Policy Implementation Team. This team will be responsible for developing an action plan with specific action steps that will guide the work of executing this policy. Please note: 

  • Implementation Team members will serve through the balance of the 2019-20 school year.

  • The first meeting is from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3 in the Large Conference Room at the Administration Building.

  • Meetings will occur monthly and there may be additional work required outside of meetings.

The deadline to apply to be a member of the Implementation Team is Wednesday, November 20. Apply online here.

We will notify selected team members prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
