41 Class of 2019 Graduates Qualify for Ohio Seal of Biliteracy

July 10, 2019—Congratulations to the 41 Shaker Heights High School graduates who have qualified to receive the State of Ohio Seal of Biliteracy, an award conferred to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and at least one world language. An additional 25 Shaker Heights High School students tested this year and will learn next month whether they will receive the Seal. Last year, the State of Ohio awarded 200 Seals of Biliteracy—Shaker Heights High School students accounted for 40 of those.

For graduating students entering college, the Seal of Biliteracy strengthens their academic credentials. Beyond the classroom, the Seal also helps employers and military recruiters identify graduates who can use their language proficiency in a professional context.

Receiving this Seal of Biliteracy is no easy task: Students must have demonstrated exceptional language skills in both English and their chosen language(s) as shown through requisite tests.

Thank you to our outstanding High School Language Acquisition Department faculty members and congratulations to the following students, who will receive the Seal of Biliteracy:
