Mercer 3rd and 4th graders will be taking the American Institute for Research (AIR) Ohio State Test in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math beginning Tuesday, April 16. The entire schedule can be viewed here. The ELA portion consists of two parts, each 90 minutes in length. Math will be two sessions of 75 minutes each. This assessment meets the requirement for the 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee.
It is important for students to be present at school during these important assessments, so please do not schedule any appointments during the exam period, if possible. State achievement tests provide us with information on student growth in knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio’s Learning Standards. They help teachers guide instruction to prepare students for future success not only in academics, but for their careers and life.
Please help your child prepare for testing by doing the following:
Be certain that they arrive to school on time
Ensure they get a good night’s sleep
Eat a good breakfast at home or school
Help them be confident in their ability to do their best
