Shaker Heights Schools Prepares for African American History Month

January 18. 2019—As we approach the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and look ahead to African American History Month in February, we share some research by Karen Dunbar, administrative assistant at the Administration Building. For every African American History Month since 2010, Mrs. Dunbar researches some aspect of African American History and posts what she's learned on a bulletin board inside the Administration Building's break room.

This year, she when she began researching African art, she learned that Pablo Picasso's work was influenced by African art from 1907-1909. She compiled images of several African masks and works by Picasso as part of her research project this year. Watch this video to learn more about Mrs. Dunbar's findings.
