Celebrate National Family Week November 18-24!

Who do you consider family? However you answer that question, be sure to make time to celebrate National Family Week by creating memories together. See below for some activity ideas brought to you the Shaker Heights Schools Family and Community Engagement Center:

  • Cook something delicious and enjoy eating it together. Click here for recipe ideas!
  • Take a walk around your neighborhood or in a part of your community you’ve never explored before.
  • Read a book, listen to music or snuggle up and watch a movie. Click here, here and here for resources.
  • Play cards, a board game or do a puzzle.
  • Volunteer your time or expertise. Volunteering in a Shaker school building is a great place to start! Click here to sign up.
  • Make something (an art project, a piece of furniture, a decoration for your Thanksgiving table).
  • Call a family member or a friend just to catch up and say hello!
  • Visit the library.
  • Get active: play a sport, do yoga or have a dance party.
  • Make homemade holiday cards or other greeting cards.
  • Look through old photos and remember “times gone by”.
  • Play "Bud, Rose and Thorn." Give everyone a chance to share a bud (something they are looking forward to), a rose (something they are happy about) and a thorn (something they are unhappy about).
  • Clean up! Whether you choose to organize a closet, sweep the floor or pull weeds, it feels good to take care of your space.
  • Learn something new: how to knit, say “I’m thankful” in 10 languages, or to do a magic trick. Click here for tips.
  • Create a scavenger hunt by writing clues that lead to different spots. Hide a small prize at the end.
  • Go to a playground, park or take a hike on a trail. We have a national park in our backyard. Check it out!
  • Go to a museum or art gallery. See all that University Circle has to offer!
