Meeting in a special session on Tuesday, June 21, the Caverna School Board chose to focus on three of seven standards to evaluate the superintendent and gave him exemplary ratings on all three standards.

The three standards were Strategic Leadership, Instructional Leadership and Managerial Leadership. The standards Board Chairman Wayne Hatcher said would probably be addressed in January were Cultural Leadership, Human Resources Leadership, Collaborative Leadership and Influential Leadership.

Following a 55 minute closed session, Chairman Hatcher announced the findings and commented on each. He noted that the Board felt Strategic Leadership was probably Superintendent Cornelius Faulkner’s strongest area. “He exceeds the standard,” Hatcher said.

Under Instructional Leadership, Chairman Hatcher commented, “The progress that has been made is notable.” He pointed out that the high school scored the highest ACT composite score it had ever made this past year. Superintendent Faulkner was given an exemplary here also.

Under Managerial Leadership Chairman Hatcher mentioned budgeting and solving problems. He pointed out that the staff was given raises and facilities had been improved. He mentioned that the budget committee which the superintendent had formed was a good idea. “We are fortunate to have a man of your devotion and stature,” Chairman Hatcher said.

The Board voted 5-0 to give the superintendent an exemplary rating on all three categories.

In the only other business, the Board voted to declare booths and tables in the high school cafeteria as surplus. Superintendent Faulkner said nine new fold down tables had been ordered for the facility and the booths had been pulled out.
