A Personal Message from Mr. Griffith to SHHS Families

April 13, 2015

Dear Shaker Heights High School Families,

Fifteen years ago, I began a magnificent journey here in the Shaker Heights community as the Principal of Shaker Heights High School. During these past years, I have given every effort to serve the needs of the students and to ensure that their future dreams and goals might take flight. In working together with you, the parents, and with an exceptionally gifted, caring faculty and staff, I believe that we have built a very successful partnership.

Today, filled with deeply held love for Shaker, it is time for my journey to take a new path. In late fall I was approached about a new and exciting opportunity. After a great deal of reflection, I have decided to accept the position of Head of School at the Ratner School. My new position will begin on July 1, 2015. Until then, I know that we have much work yet to complete, and my eyes remain focused on the prize.

I have learned so much about overcoming obstacles, service, life and friendship from hundreds of faculty and staff, thousands of parents, and nearly 6,000 graduates in my career at Shaker. I know that I am a better human being because of what Shaker has offered to me and my family. I only hope that in my time here, I have given back as much as I have received.

I know that there will be challenges in the transition ahead, but there is no place that is stronger, more caring, and more committed to students than Shaker Heights High School. The faculty, staff and parents will persist and continue to create a school community that is a beacon of excellence for all students.

To our students: I wish you well as the wonderful journey that is Shaker continues forward. Know that a piece of me will always remain here. I will be sure to visit and I look forward to hearing of your continued achievements.

To our parents, staff, and community: Thank you for your never-ending support, for your push and challenge when I needed it, and most importantly for your commitment to the mission of Shaker Heights and our students.

Sincerely,

Mike Griffith
