The former A.J. Lloyd Middle School has been declared surplus property by the school board and may soon be sold. The board declared the property as surplus during a meeting held on Monday,
February 15.

Wayne County Superintendent Wayne Roberts said he had been approached by a couple of different entities who had expressed interest in buying the property. The declaration includes both buildings located on that property, according to Roberts.

Following the board action, Roberts said he would contact the Kentucky Department of Education to receive some guidance on the next step in the process.

Also during the meeting, the board briefly discussed the current school calendar and the number of snow days that have been missed so far this winter. Assistant Superintendent Allen Clark noted that February 16, marked the 16th day of class that the district had missed. Without taking any days away during spring break, an amended calender at that point would have the final day of school at May 30.

Several days after that discussion, school officials decided to go ahead and use the first three days of spring break as make-up days. A statement released on February 19, indicated that students will be in school on April 4,5 and 6. With that change, the last day of classes for students in the school district would be May 27.

In other action, the board:
• Approved the staff allocation formulas for the 2016-2017 school year, which will remain the same as the current year.
• Approved a change order for the Wayne County Middle School construction project.
• Approved a pay application in the amount of $133,860.99 for the construction project.
• Heard and update and presentation regarding the Gear Up program in the school district.
