The renovated Woodbury building will house students in Grades 6-8 as they begin the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The remodeled school will include the center of the original building, which was built in 1918, along with secure entrances and ADA accessibility. The new construction will include modern classrooms, an auditorium and a natatorium.

renovation update
The Board of Education approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) #5 of $49.1 million at the June 24 meeting. GMP 5 includes all remaining Woodbury construction work that was not included in the previous four GMPs. This includes work on the concrete foundation, masonry, windows, fire protection, mechanical/electrical systems, technology and more.
Contractors continue to form footers for the new pool and gym at Woodbury. Contractors are also building masonry foundations and walls for the locker rooms. Foundation work continues for the new auditorium, and contractors continue tie-in work for water and sewer lines along Woodbury Road.

Recent Woodbury Renovation News
Due to a number of factors, the District no longer expects that the Woodbury building will be ready to reopen as the new Middle Years building for the beginning of the 2027-2028 school year. Until Woodbury is complete, students will continue to learn in their existing buildings.
Last year, the Shaker Heights Schools partnered with Emerald Built Environments, a Cleveland-based sustainability consultant, to develop a District Sustainability Plan. The District is dedicated to creating healthy, resilient, and environmentally responsible schools by integrating sustainable practices into design, construction, operations, and education.
Revised Woodbury renderings were presented to the Board of Education at its November 11, 2025 meeting. Board members provided positive feedback on interior and exterior renderings that showed the school entrances, landscaping, lighting and more.
In early November 2025, the City’s Architectural Board of Review (ABR) and Planning Commission approved District plans related to the renovations at the Woodbury school building. The approvals by these two City commissions are significant as they will enable the Woodbury renovation project to continue on schedule.
The partial demolition of Woodbury is nearing completion. The gym, pool, east wing and west wing were demolished from July through October 2025. Gilbane Building Company continues to remove debris from the site before beginning work on the foundation.
Gilbane Building Company and AKA Construction Management began partial demolition of Woodbury on July 28.
The Shaker Heights Schools plan to retain an arborist from The Dirty Horticulturist, LLC for arboricultural consulting services.
At the June 16 Architectural Board of Review (ABR) meeting, architects from GPD Group received conditional approval for the demolition of the Woodbury wings.
