Last year, the Shaker Heights Schools partnered with Emerald Built Environments, a Cleveland-based sustainability consultant, to develop a District Sustainability Plan. The District is dedicated to creating healthy, resilient, and environmentally responsible schools by integrating sustainable practices into design, construction, operations, and education.

Revised Woodbury renderings were presented to the Board of Education at its November 11, 2025 meeting. Board members provided positive feedback on interior and exterior renderings that showed the school entrances, landscaping, lighting and more.

In early November 2025, the City’s Architectural Board of Review (ABR) and Planning Commission approved District plans related to the renovations at the Woodbury school building. The approvals by these two City commissions are significant as they will enable the Woodbury renovation project to continue on schedule.

Lomond and Mercer will be the next elementary schools to be renovated as part of the Long-Term Master Facilities Plan.

The partial demolition of Woodbury is nearing completion. The gym, pool, east wing and west wing were demolished from July through October 2025. Gilbane Building Company continues to remove debris from the site before beginning work on the foundation.
