Assessments & Testing

Student progress is assessed in many ways including teacher observation, teacher-made assessments, continuous progress monitoring, projects, writing assignments and standardized tests.

All of these forms of assessment provide information to help plan each child’s education and monitor each child’s progress.  It is important to remember that each test result is like a single photo in an album.  Occasionally, a photo may lack clarity.  Instead of focusing on that photo, we look at other photos to get a more accurate sense of the big picture.

Some standardized assessments are state or federally mandated and used to report our progress as a district. The use of assessment to monitor student progress, to inform instruction and to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction is central to the District’s goal of ensuring the success of all students.

ACT & SAT Scores

College Admissions and Scholarship Opportunities

Traditionally, colleges and universities have used ACT and/or SAT scores in the admissions process and in scholarship decisions.  Since the Covid19 pandemic, some colleges and universities as well as some scholarship programs have adopted a test optional policy.  Please consult the schools’ or scholarship programs’ websites for up-to-date information.

Assessments & Testing by Grade

Universal tests are required for all students in that grade level.  Non-universal tests are administered as needed.
