Shaker Heights High School Named GAPP School of Distinction
TeachersJanuary 7, 2020—Shaker Heights High School has been selected as a German American Partnership Program (GAPP) School of Distinction, an honor that recognizes schools for their outstanding engagement and best practices that facilitate youth exchanges in their school, community and beyond. The High School is among a select group of schools nationwide to receive the award.

For the past 15 years, German Teachers Keith Szalay and Andrea Bradd Cook (front row) have been organizing the exchange with Shaker Heights High School’s sister school, the RG Goslar, bringing students together with host families and building lasting relationships among families, teachers and administrators. In 2018, the Shaker Heights-Goslar program celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special principal exchange and receptions in both Shaker Heights and Goslar.

"We are very proud to award our GAPP school of distinction to Shaker Heights High School,” said Molly Rowland, director of the German American Partnership Program. “With this recognition, we highlight and celebrate the school's dedication to student growth, inclusion of global perspectives, and celebrate the endless work of everyone who is involved in the GAPP exchange."

GAPP is a program jointly administered by the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the States of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe-Institut New York and GAPP, Inc.
