District Preparations for High Temperatures

August 23, 2021—As the temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s this week, our principals and staff will continuously monitor that our students have sufficient water and stay as cool as possible throughout the day. The District will use the National Weather Service’s heat index as its primary source of local weather conditions. While high temperatures alone may not warrant closing schools, there are several precautions that can be made to provide for a safe, productive learning environment:

  • During periods of high temperatures, classrooms will be aired out each evening with cool night air. Fans will be provided during the day to help with air flow.

  • The District has advised all staff to provide frequent water breaks and to remind students to stay hydrated. Bottled water will be provided as needed.

  • Students should try to wear light-weight clothing and eat light, cool, easy-to-digest foods such as fruit or salads.

Thank you as always for your support of our schools. I look forward to welcoming our students back to class Wednesday.
