A Joint Statement From the District and SHTA

“The Shaker Schools Administration and the Shaker Heights Teachers’ Association share the belief that our highest priority is the health and safety of our students and staff. We also strongly agree that full, in-person learning is critical to our students’ growth and success. We as educators know that this is the way students learn best.

“To that end, we strongly endorse the District’s plan to require masks for all students and staff while indoors, regardless of vaccination status. In addition to getting vaccinated, the diligent use of masks is currently our most effective defense against the spread of COVID-19. Wearing masks is also the best way to ensure that our students are able to attend school in-person during the 2021-2022 school year.

“The new school year presents an opportunity not only to return to in-person learning, but to redouble our efforts to ensure that every classroom in every school is a place where children can succeed and thrive.”
