Twenty-Nine Members of the Class of 2021 Earn Ohio Seal of Biliteracy

August 13, 2021—Congratulations to the 29 members of the Class of 2021 who earned the prestigious Ohio Department of Education Seal of Biliteracy in one or more of seven languages including Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Latin and Spanish. The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes graduating seniors who can demonstrate high levels of proficiency in English and at least one other modern world language, classical language, American Sign Language or Native American language.

This year, four members of the Class of 2021 earned seals in more than one language. These students are:

  • Annika Jankowsky—French and German

  • Margaret Bennett—French and Latin

  • Samuel Schmidt—Latin and Spanish

  • David Szoke—German and Spanish

Such high levels of language proficiency are accomplished through the District’s well-aligned Language Acquisition curriculum for students in Grades 6-12 and the hard work of the program’s 24 language teachers.
