Dr. David Glasner, SuperintendentNovember 11, 2021—The Board of Education last night unanimously voted to extend the contract of Superintendent Dr. David Glasner for an additional five years. Dr. Glasner’s current three-year pact expires June 30, 2022.

Under Dr. Glasner’s leadership, the District has established and begun implementation of a new, ambitious, five-year Strategic Plan. Dr. Glasner has also established the District’s first Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to ensure that everything the District does—learning and teaching, strategic planning, hiring, professional learning, technology, operations and communications—considers diversity, equity and inclusion.

Board members praised Dr. Glasner for moving forward with these important initiatives in the midst of educational and health challenges posed by the pandemic.

“We cannot tell you how much we appreciate your calm and thoughtful approach,” said Board President Heather Weingart. “We are grateful to you and look forward to another five years.”

Dr. Glasner, who took over as superintendent July 1, 2019, previously served as interim principal of the High School, Executive DIrector of Curriculum and Instruction, and principal of the Middle School. He joined the District in 2014. Prior to joining the District, Dr. Glasner served as principal of the Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law, a public high school in New York City. He was also a high school social studies teacher with the New York City Department of Education.

“I appreciate the Board’s support, and the leadership you have shown,” Dr. Glasner said. “I look forward to continuing the work we have begun on behalf of the students and families we serve.”

Dr. Glasner and his wife, Elana, live in Shaker Heights with their three children.
