Student Health and Safety Guidelines

October 5, 2020—To prepare for a return to onsite learning at the end of this month, all families with students who will participate in onsite learning should review these Student Health and Safety Guidelines with their students.

Students should be familiar with the District’s mask-wearing policies and hand washing/sanitizing and physical distancing guidelines so that they understand the positive role they can play in minimizing transmission of COVID-19 in our schools.

We encourage families and students to review this information together and to discuss/address any questions before returning to school for onsite learning.

These Student Health and Safety Guidelines include the following guidelines:

  • All students in grades PreK-12 are required to wear masks in school (with certain exemptions). Staff also are required to wear masks.

  • Students should maintain a physical distance of six feet from peers whenever possible.

  • Families should assess the health of their student(s) each day before sending them to school (please see page 2 of the guidelines for specific health assessment information).

  • Students must bring their own filled water bottles to school, as water fountains will not be available for use.

  • No visitors are permitted in school buildings, except in cases of emergency.

  • Students who ride the bus must sanitize their hands prior to boarding the bus, maintain physical distance at the bus stop, wear a mask while on the bus and sit one student per seat on the bus (or where instructed by the bus driver or aide).

  • Students must wear a mask to the restroom and, whenever possible, restroom use will be limited to one student at a time. Students must thoroughly wash or sanitize their hands after restroom use.

  • Meals will be eaten in classrooms. Students should wear masks before and after they eat meals, and they must wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before eating any food.

It is also important that students and families understand the protocols our schools must follow in case a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, becomes symptomatic or is considered a close contact. These protocols and potential scenarios begin on page 8 of the Student Health and Safety Guidelines.

We appreciate your attention to these Student Health and Safety Guidelines and we value your partnership in our efforts to maintain a safe learning environment for all students.
