Positive Case of COVID-19 at Woodbury

October 11, 2020

Dear Shaker Heights families, staff and community members:

Over the weekend, we received notification that a staff member at Woodbury Elementary School received a positive test result Saturday for COVID-19. The staff member was last in the Woodbury building on Tuesday.

Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff and community members. Out of an overabundance of caution, we are closing the Woodbury building Monday and Tuesday, October 12 and 13 to thoroughly clean and to allow the District the opportunity to coordinate with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. The Board of Health is closed on weekends, and Monday, October 12, is Columbus Day.

The District’s online COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated accordingly Monday. The Dashboard is updated weekdays at 4 p.m.

The District will continue to follow COVID-related safety procedures. For the latest information, please review the District’s staff and student health and safety protocols.

Any Woodbury staff members who were in the building last week should continue normal precautions and monitor their health. We will follow Board of Health recommendations regarding contacting any additional staff members.

We appreciate the prompt and responsible reporting of positive COVID-19 tests from our staff. This is a reminder that, per the District’s Student Health and Safety Guidelines, if a student exhibits symptoms consistent with COVID-19, the student’s family should contact the building administrator to report the suspected positive case. District staff should continue to notify Human Resources of any positive or presumed positive COVID-19 cases.

As a reminder, COVID-19 is transmitted through person-to-person contact and through the exchange of respiratory droplets. If you or any member of your family exhibit these symptoms, please contact your medical provider for advice immediately.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner
Shaker Heights Schools Superintendent
