A Message from Dr. Glasner

December 8, 2020

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families and Staff,

Our goal currently remains to resume onsite learning on Monday, January 4. On this date, we expect Grades K-4 students who were previously onsite to resume five full days in-person, Grades 5-8 to resume the A/B-week hybrid schedule and for High School students to begin the A/B-day hybrid schedule. PreK students will resume the AA/BB-day hybrid schedule. Families who opted for all online instruction are expected to remain online.

The District continues to regularly evaluate data on staff and student positive COVID-19 cases to inform future plans. Please continue to report positive and presumed positive cases to help the District gather information on COVID-19 spread within our school community.

We also urge you to continue to adhere to all COVID-19 health and safety guidelines and protocols. The overall health of our school community will directly impact the District's ability to resume onsite learning. We are aware that other local school districts have faced staffing challenges as a result of positive/presumed positive COVID-19 cases and quarantines. We want to avoid similar challenges. Please wear a mask, wash your hands, practice physical distancing and avoid unnecessary travel and any interactions with those who are not members of your immediate household.

We will keep you informed should our plans to resume in-person learning change. We also will share a survey with families in the coming days to help shape our instructional plans for the second semester, which begins January 19.

Thank you for your support, continued patience and your own personal efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Shaker Heights.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
