Schools/Buildings with new reported cases: High School

The Shaker Heights City School District is sending this email as a notification of important COVID-19-related information. The Daily COVID-19 Update will be sent each weekday evening excluding days when District offices are closed.

New Cases

The District has received reports of 2 new positive COVID-19 cases among students. For more information, please visit the District’s online COVID-19 Dashboard. The Dashboard is updated weekdays at 4 p.m. excluding days when District offices are closed.

Case Details

  • The individuals received positive test results and their families notified the District.

  • The individuals are:

    • A student at the High School who was last onsite Thursday, February 18.

    • A student at the High School who was last onsite Friday, February 19. (This case was already reported to class families and staff on Sunday, February 21.)

  • The individual will isolate until they meet the criteria to end the isolation period (10 days from the onset of symptoms, as well as an improvement in symptoms and 24 hours fever-free without the use of medication).

  • The District is following CCBH recommendations and is providing necessary notifications, as well as contacting any individuals by telephone who are considered to be close contacts.

How Dashboard Cases are Reported

The Dashboard is updated as families and staff members report cases to the Shaker Heights City School District. Families should contact their building principal if a student tests positive or is presumed positive. Staff members should contact the Human Resources Department to report a positive or presumed positive case.

Reminder: Students and Staff Should Remain Home If:

  • Exhibit any Category A or B symptom as outlined under “Student Health Assessment” in the staff and student guidelines.

  • Are defined as a close contact of someone who has a confirmed positive or presumed-positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

  • Are awaiting or have a household member who is awaiting a COVID-19 test result.

Reminder: Fill Out the Daily Health Assessment

Families should complete the District’s daily health assessment/COVID-19 screening each day. To access the health assessment tool:

  • Download the app App Store or Google Play. If you already have the app on your mobile device, please update it.

  • Families who do not have a smartphone can access the app online

  • Follow these instructions to create an account and to register your student. You will need your student’s ID number, available in your student’s ProgressBook or Abre account.

  • Complete the COVID-19 screening daily when your student returns to onsite learning.

Health and Safety

It continues to be important for all staff, students and families to adhere to the key public health prevention strategies to reduce the chance for transmission of COVID-19.

Please also be sure to review these recent updates to the District’s staff and student health and safety protocols:

Staff/Students are not required to quarantine if:

  • The staff member/student has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days and is subsequently exposed again during the 90 days. Confirmation of a previously positive regular or rapid COVID-19 test must be on file with Human Resources for staff or the school nurse for students. If the staff member/student was previously identified as a presumed-positive case without a test for the first diagnosis, this exemption would not apply as no test results are available to document the diagnosis.

  • The staff member/student is at least two weeks out from having received all doses of an FDA-approved vaccine and can provide documentation of the vaccine’s administration. For students, this currently applies only to those who are 16 years of age or older for the Pfizer vaccine or 18 years of age or older for the Moderna vaccine.

  • Please note: Although not required to quarantine, staff members/students are still required to monitor symptoms for 14 days following exposure. The quarantine exemption does NOT apply if the staff member/student subsequently develops symptoms following an exposure.

Travel Advisory

Staff and families who plan to travel out-of-state are advised to refer to the state of Ohio’s COVID-19 Travel Advisory webpage for the latest information on self-quarantining recommendations by state. Persons entering Ohio after traveling to states reporting positive COVID-19 testing rates of 15% or higher are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.
