Dear Class of 2021 Families and Students,
We have good news! Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, has opened its doors to area school districts for commencement ceremonies. As a result, we are happy to announce that Commencement for the Class of 2021 will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Additionally, the District and the Shaker Schools Foundation are delighted to announce that our special Commencement speaker will be Jamil Smith, a renowned journalist and senior correspondent at Vox. Mr. Smith is a 1993 graduate of Shaker Heights High School and, as Student Council President, delivered a commencement address to his own graduating class. He was inducted into the High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 2018. You can read more about Mr. Smith.
We firmly believe that moving our Commencement to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse is the best option for our graduating seniors and their families for a variety of reasons:
The quality of our Commencement will not be dependent on having favorable weather.
Ample parking will be available to our families in paid parking lots and garages in the surrounding area.
Each graduate will have access to up to six tickets for families and friends.
Most importantly, we believe this Commencement will be exciting and memorable for our graduates. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing additional details about the venue’s required COVID-19 protocols, ticketing, parking, transportation and other details.
