SHHS School Psychologist Sagar Patel Named School Psychologist of the Year
Sagar PatelJune 7, 2019—Congratulations to Shaker Heights High School school psychologist Sagar Patel, who received the School Psychologist of the Year Award from the Cleveland Association of School Psychologists. Mr. Patel was nominated for the award by his peers at the High School and, having received this award, will be considered for the Ohio School Psychologist of the Year Award, which is given in November.

Mr. Patel says that he decided to become a school psychologist based on what he observed and experienced during high school. “I saw that for so many kids, what goes on at home definitely impacts what goes on at school. So today, as a school psychologist, I really believe it’s important to take a whole-child approach when you’re working with kids,” Mr. Patel says. “I also think it’s important that we bring awareness to the fact that there are a lot of different people struggling with a lot of different things. The more we’re mindful of that, the more it helps us bring our difficulties to the forefront and to get help.”

Mr. Patel has been a school psychologist for eight years and has been with the District for seven years. A native of North Royalton, Mr. Patel earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in psychology and his Psy.S. from Cleveland State University.

Congratulations, Mr. Patel!
