Extended Closure Update | March 27, 2020

We’ll be sending you regular updates during this extended closure to share any new information and to remind you about previous messages we don’t want you to have missed. Some updates will be shorter and some will be longer, but we’ll be staying in touch.

Even though our schools and offices are closed, our faculty and staff are still committed to working hard each day on behalf of every student and family.

What’s New

  • Welcome back from spring break (almost)! On Monday, March 30, students and staff will resume distance learning at Level 2. All students should check their student email accounts for assignments and suggested work. Parents/guardians can review these instructional plans, shared by building principals prior to spring break.

  • Beginning on Monday, March 30, students and families can drop off District-issued Chromebooks for repairs and replacement parts needed during the extended school closure. The self-service, secured, drop-off and pick-up lockers are located in the lobby of Shaker Heights High School. Please be sure to complete a Chromebook Help Desk Service Ticket to initiate any repair requests. For additional information, review these instructions for Chromebook Repairs.

  • On Wednesday, March 25, state lawmakers halted the expansion of EdChoice, freezing the list of schools eligible for EdChoice at 2019-2020 levels. Read this message from Dr. Glasner regarding the news.

Coming Up

  • The District anticipates moving to Level 3 for all students, faculty and staff on Monday, April 6. We encourage parents, guardians and students to check email regularly for updated information on distance learning, assignments and classroom office hours. Please review the Extended School Closure Plan for an explanation of Level 3 and visit Learning & Teaching Plans and Resources for grade-specific information

Reminders

  • All District and City of Shaker Heights playgrounds are closed, per Gov. DeWine’s Stay-at-Home Order. In addition, the Shaker Heights High School track and field, as well as the District’s tennis courts (located next to the Onaway Elementary School playground) are locked and closed until further notice.

  • During this extended closure, the District may utilize text messaging more frequently to ensure that all families received updated information. Sign up for text messaging by texting Y to 67587 from your phone number of record with the District.
