April 26, 2023—The District’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI) led the Board of Education on Tuesday through a discussion aimed at updating the Board on the District’s work to further District Strategic Plan goals and objectives.
Highlights of the meeting included:
Building a Sustainable, High-Impact DEI Infrastructure: ODEI Chief Dr. Lawrence Burnley, explained the mission and vision of ODEI, its organizational structure and student programming and advising.
DEI and Professional Learning: DEI Learning Specialist Dr. Nicole Sherman Patterson discussed the importance of equity and inclusion on professional learning, equity rounds, the importance of data and student programs such as Bridges and MAC Scholars and Mac Sisters.
Family & Community Engagement (FACE): FACE Supervisor Keith Langford helped define the concept of community engagement, FACE’s collaborative work, helping students who are homeless or displaced and eliminating barriers to success in school.
Realizing Inclusive Excellence: Dr. Burnley shared ways in which the District is building capacity around Inclusive Excellence.
