Treasurer Bryan C. Christman to Retire
Bryan ChristmanBryan C. Christman, Treasurer of the Shaker Heights City School District, has announced he will retire at the end of July 2023, after serving nearly 24 years. A search for a new treasurer will commence shortly.

Mr. Christman, who was appointed by the Shaker Heights Board of Education in October 1999, is one of the longest-serving school treasurers in the state. Before coming to Shaker, Mr. Christman served three years as treasurer and six years as controller for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and 12 years prior to that in the public accounting field.

“Bryan’s steady hand has guided the District for nearly a quarter of a century,” said Superintendent Dr. David Glasner. “His knowledge of school finances, his familiarity with the Shaker Heights school district and his skill at his role is unparalleled in this District and across the state of Ohio. He will be missed.”

Under Mr. Christman's leadership, the District has consistently received the Auditor of State Award of Distinction – an honor earned by only 5 percent of school districts and local governments – for sound stewardship of tax dollars and compliance with laws and regulations. The District has also enjoyed top-level credit ratings, which ensure favorable borrowing rates. Due to sound fiscal practices, the next operating levy for the District is projected for 2024 – an unprecedented 10-year span since the last operating levy was approved by voters in 2014.

“Anything we have accomplished has been very much a team effort,” Mr. Christman said. “We have a very strong staff in place that will continue our work going forward.”

Mr. Christman, a certified public accountant, is a member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials, Government Finance Officers Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served as Vice President and President and is currently serving as Legislative Committee representative of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials. He has also served on the Ohio Schools Council Treasurer and Business Manager Advisory Committee.

Mr. Christman and his wife, JoAnn, also a certified public accountant, live in Shaker Heights. Their three adult children are all Shaker Heights High School graduates.
