Important Transportation Information for Families
August 17, 2022—The Shaker Heights City School District is facing a severe shortage of bus drivers. As a result, the District is presently considering a variety of ways to address this urgent issue for the 2022-2023 school year.

In 2020, the District had 50 drivers. That number dropped to 35 during the past school year. Today, the District is down to approximately 25 drivers. As a result, each route is currently planned to be operating at capacity.

To be clear, this is a national crisis. Many bus drivers are leaving for other career opportunities, and there is a shortage of licensed candidates.

As you may have seen, “Here Comes the Bus” went live this week with route and time information. These routes will continue to be adjusted as we approach the start of school, so please check the app and website often. In addition, the District will monitor our student transportation and may need to make adjustments to routes or stops after the start of the school year.

While this is an urgent issue, we are hoping to minimize this disruption for our students and families, and we thank you for your patience and understanding.
