May 2018 Newsletter: High School Choirs and Principal Jonathan Kuehnle to Join Sing Out!

On Thursday, May 24, 45 students from the High School Choirs and Principal Jonathan Kuehnle will join Sing Out!, the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s biennial chorale benefit performance. This year’s performance will take place at Severance Hall. The chorale includes prominent members of the Cleveland community, who lend their voices in an uplifting performance that raises awareness, inspires change and raises funds to support the Rape Crisis Center’s work. The High School choir members will perform as the event’s featured choir.

Mr. Kuehnle was approached by City of Shaker Heights Municipal Court Judge K.J. Montgomery to join the Sing Out! chorale, after he sang the National Anthem at a Cleveland Indians game last August. “It’s a great cause and it fulfills a lifelong dream to perform on stage at Severance Hall,” said Mr. Kuehnle, who began singing with professional choirs when he was nine-years-old. With Mr. Kuehnle on board, the Rape Crisis Center then reached out to Choir Director Mario Clopton-Zymler and asked if the High School Choirs would be the evening’s featured choirs.

Female members of the High School choir will perform Kesha’s “Praying” and male members of the choir will perform Keith Urban’s “Female.” Mr. Clopton-Zymler said that it was a honor to be selected as the featured choir for the fundraiser. He added that the opportunity to perform at Severance is inspiring. “Being on that stage is special,” he said. “It’s different than performing on your high school stage, because you can’t help but be overtaken by the hall. To be included among the musicians who have performed there is inspiring.”
