Dr. John Moore Named Director of Curriculum and Instruction

June 9, 2021—Dr. John M. Moore, District International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator, has been named the District’s new Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Moore will begin his new role this summer.

As the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, Dr. Moore will support student achievement and professional learning for instructional staff. Dr. Moore will also collaborate with District and building leadership teams to support continuous improvement of learning and teaching and to meet the goals and objectives outlined in the District’s Strategic Plan and Educational Equity Policy.

Last month, Dr. Moore was chosen to be one of 30 educators from around the world — and just one of seven from the United States — to be an evaluation leader for the new IB evaluation model. The International Baccalaureate said it chose Dr. Moore because he is a “change agent” with an “in-depth understanding of holistic school development” who can provide “leadership and professional guidance in innovation and change management.”

“Dr. Moore is a nationally recognized educator who is passionate about ensuring that all Shaker students have access to a high-quality and equitable education,” said Dr. Marla Robinson, Chief Academic Officer. “He is a proven leader who inspires students and colleagues alike. I am proud to have him as a colleague and thrilled to see him take on this new leadership position.”

Dr. Moore has served as the District’s IB Coordinator since 2016 and IB Diploma Programme Coordinator since 2017. In that capacity, he increased participation and diversity in the program. He served previously as the District’s IB Middle Years Programme Coordinator. He joined the District as a biology teacher in 2008.

Dr. Moore earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and education from Hiram College, a master’s degree in biology from Kent State University and a doctorate in philosophy in urban education from Cleveland State University.
