7th Grader Sarah Holbrook Makes Geography Bee Win a Family Tradition

May 29, 2021—Seventh grader Sarah Holbrook won the Shaker Heights Middle School Geography Bee earlier this week, following in her ninth-grade brother's footsteps. Adam Holbrook won the Geography Bee in 2020. Sarah answered 10 out of 11 questions correctly in the final and championship rounds. Seventh grader Charles Griest finished in second place answering nine out of 11 questions correctly. The winning question was, “Many residents of the city of El Alto work in neighboring La Paz, the administrative capital of which South American country?” The answer is Bolivia.

The other Geography Bee finalists included seventh graders Lauren Cameron and Gabriella Hughley-Gedson, as well as eighth graders Graham Borstein, Jenna Englander, Jesse Nathenson, Zachary Nathenson, Anjum Reddy, Aldwyn Stibora and Asher Voorhees. Students must pass a qualifying test to advance to the finals.

Mr. Michael Sears, eighth-grade Individuals and Societies teacher, sponsors the Middle School Geography Bee.
