SHHS Student Linnea Koops Honored in NASA Glenn Essay Contest

May 10, 2021—Congratulations to SHHS Freshman Linnea Koops for being selected as one of the High School Student Winners of the NASA Glenn 80th Anniversary Student Essay Contest!

NASA Glenn celebrated its 80th anniversary by inviting students in Grades 4-12 to join the celebration by learning about NASA Glenn’s missions and people and then writing an essay explaining how our exploration and discoveries inspire them and their career goals or may change the way people live and work in the future.

Linnea's essay featured Annie J. Easley, who was one of NASA's "human calculators" and was made famous in the 2017 movie "Hidden Figures." Annie J. Easley was a mathematician who broke barriers in her field, and went on to become a computer programmer and engineer.

As part of her recognition, Linnea has been invited to a virtual NASA Contest Recognition Event on May 22 where she will have the opportunity to speak with NASA scientists and engineers. Congratulations, Linnea!
