Onsite/Hybrid Learning Begins Tuesday, January 19

January 14, 2021

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families,

We look forward to the return of PreK-12 students who wish to participate in onsite/hybrid learning on Tuesday, January 19. Our buildings are safe and well-prepared for our students.

At this time, the current Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) Stay-at-Home Advisory expires Friday, January 15. Even if this advisory is extended, Shaker Heights Schools students who wish to participate in onsite/hybrid learning will still return to school on Tuesday, January 19.

Some reminders for families with students who will be returning to school onsite:

  • Students must wear a mask at school at all times, except while eating. We recommend that your student brings a spare mask to school. If your student does not have a mask, we will provide one.

  • If you have any questions about your student’s onsite/hybrid schedule, review the information on the Onsite/Hybrid School Times & Schedules page.

  • Families with students who ride the bus may obtain your bus stop information by signing up for/logging in to Here Comes the Bus. Our District code is 29207.

  • Review the Student Health & Safety Guidelines with your student prior to returning to school. Please note: The guidelines have been updated to include a revised definition on close contacts, per the Ohio Department of Health (see the bottom of page 3).

  • While not mandatory, we encourage families to complete the Daily Health Assessment/COVID-19 Screener as a best practice. Students who show any symptoms of COVID-19 should remain at home.

  • Breakfast and lunch are provided free of charge for all students through the rest of this academic year. Learn more about Free/Reduced-Price lunch and apply online here

  • Please be aware that positive COVID-19 cases and exposures could result in the need for your student to switch to online learning as a result of required quarantines by students or staff. To that end, be sure that your student brings his/her Chromebook home every night along with the charging cord and any necessary books or frequently used school supplies. Families should also develop contingency plans for childcare, should a positive case or cases require your onsite student to temporarily move to online learning. Unfortunately, due to Cuyahoga County Board of Health guidelines and the short notice we receive when we learn of a positive COVID-19 case, students and staff may be required to pivot to online learning with less than 24 hours of notice.

For families with students who will continue with online learning:

Thank you to all of our families, students and staff for your flexibility. We look forward to a safe, healthy return to onsite/hybrid learning.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
