A Message from Dr. Glasner | October 23, 2020

Good afternoon, everyone. I'm Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent of Shaker Heights City School District. I'm here today to provide you with an update regarding our return to onsite learning.

As many of you are probably aware, our students will remain remote during the week of October 26. However, we are considering the possibility of a return to onsite learning during the week of November 2. Over the course of the next few days and week, we will continue to monitor COVID-19 related data in this county and in the state. And we are aware that there will continue to be fluctuations in those data, including the possibility that Cuyahoga County is designated a Level 4, or Purple county.

We are moving ahead with our plans for a return to onsite learning because we have put in place a great deal of health and safety measures to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.

We also have learned from districts and schools that have been in person since the start of the school year. And we see in this county and in this state—and really across the country—that there is zero or very low transmission of COVID-19 in schools that have implemented health and safety protocols like the ones we have put in place.

We will provide a minimum of two calendar days’ notice prior to returning to onsite learning. For the most up-to-date information, I encourage you to visit our website www.shaker.org. We have updated our website so that you have easy access to information about the return to onsite learning. I will also be providing another update to this community by next Friday.

In the meantime, I encourage everyone to review our student health and safety protocols so that we are prepared for when we can return to onsite learning. As I've said a number of times this week, we have an obligation as a school district to meet all of our students' needs.

And I want to thank everyone for all of their hard work to make the remote learning environment as successful as possible. We also know that we have work to do and options to provide in order to meet all student needs.

Thank you as always for your support, your flexibility and your patience during this pandemic. I hope you have a great weekend and look forward to talking with you soon.
