A Message from Dr. Glasner

October 16, 2020

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families,

Cuyahoga County yesterday returned to a Level 3 (Red) on the Public Health Advisory Alert System

The District will provide additional information regarding the return to onsite learning as soon as possible. I am sending this message to share with you some of the considerations that are informing District decisions moving forward.

Over the summer, I shared that our decision to return to onsite learning for this school year would be aligned with County advisory levels and other guidance we receive from local, state and federal health authorities. COVID-19 guidance and data have evolved since then. For example, school districts are now required to report positive and presumed positive cases on COVID-19 dashboards, which provides us better information about possible spread within our school communities.

We also have learned that the safety protocols and practices in place at neighboring districts which have already implemented their hybrid or onsite learning plans are proving effective at minimizing the spread of COVID-19.

We will continue to monitor guidance from state and local health agencies to determine a safe path forward for our students, staff and families.

At this time, our buildings will remain open to staff and we encourage them to report onsite to teach and to prepare for the return of students. Per District health and safety protocols, buildings continue to remain closed to visitors.

Thank you, as always, for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
