Important Update on Return to Hybrid/Onsite Learning

December 18, 2020

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families:

Earlier today, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Cuyahoga County executive extended the stay-at-home advisory through January 15.

Given that this timeline aligns with the start of the second semester and allowing for a post-holiday COVID-19 quarantine cycle, we are planning to modify our return to onsite learning as follows:

  • CLARIFICATION: Remote learning resumes for all students on Monday, January 4.

  • High School students will begin a phased-in return on Monday, January 11 to accommodate End of Course, MAP testing and student orientation opportunities. The High School will share an updated schedule with families as soon as it becomes available.

  • Students in Grades PreK-8 will return to the onsite learning schedule on Tuesday, January 19.

  • Plans for students with disabilities who had been learning onsite are still to be determined. Families will be contacted the week of January 3.

  • The start date for the Champions Before-Care and After-Care will be adjusted. Additional information will be shared when it becomes available.

I know that these changes are frustrating. I appreciate everyone’s flexibility and resilience this year. Balancing learning and safety during a pandemic is very challenging and our students depend on our entire community’s commitment to stop the spread of COVID-19.

We’re very hopeful about 2021 and the plans and goals we have for the second half of our school year. I look forward to discussing this work in more depth when we return.

Until then, I want to wish all of our families, students, staff and community a safe, healthy and joyful Winter Break. Thank you and Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
