Fourth Quarter Information for Families and Staff

February 23, 2021

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families and Staff,

At the start of the fourth quarter on Monday, March 22, all Shaker Heights Schools students who wish to return for onsite learning may do so. Students also may choose to continue learning online.

All families, students and staff should review the following important information regarding fourth quarter onsite learning:

  • The District plans to maintain the current onsite learning schedule at all buildings.

  • The District will continue to strive for six feet physical distance between students, wherever possible.

  • Depending on the number of students in each building/classroom/space, the District may implement three feet of physical distance between students. This may include breakfast and lunch spaces.

  • To accommodate additional students at lunch, buildings will utilize tented outdoor spaces as needed.

  • We will continue to encourage students and staff to complete the Daily Health Assessment/COVID-19 screener.

  • Students and staff will continue to wear masks, wash/sanitize their hands frequently and maintain physical distance.

Tomorrow morning, families that currently have online students will receive an Onsite/Online Selection Form to indicate whether or not they plan to return onsite for the fourth quarter. Responses to this form will help the District to accommodate additional onsite students.

Each school will communicate additional details for onsite learning directly with their families, after the District determines how many students will be onsite.

We are grateful for staff and students’ adherence to our health and safety protocols and encouraged by improving local COVID-19 data. This, combined with our more than 800 faculty and staff members who will receive their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, March 9, gives us confidence in our ability to continue our plans with onsite learning.

In the meantime, we ask all families and staff to review the following information:

Again, thank you for your individual efforts at school and in the community to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
Shaker Heights Schools
