Roneisha Campbell Named Mercer Elementary School Principal

April 12, 2021—The District is pleased to announce that Roneisha P. Campbell has been named principal of Mercer Elementary School and will join the District July 1, 2021. She succeeds J. Lindsay Florence, who will retire from Shaker Heights Schools after the end of this school year.

Mrs. Campbell emerged as the top candidate in a pool of more than 30 applicants, following a search process that involved interviews with administrators, a staff and community survey and a virtual community forum.

Since 2018, Mrs. Campbell has served as Assistant Principal at Canton City Schools’ Belden Leadership School and Cedar Leadership School, where she developed and implemented plans to raise student achievement and to meet the needs of students and families. At Cedar Leadership School, she helped implement the school’s 1:1 technology initiative and collaborated with classroom teachers to design engaging technology-based learning. Mrs. Campbell also worked closely with diversity, equity and inclusion professionals in Summit County to ensure that her school building practices were equitable and met the diverse needs of the school community. Prior to her work as an administrator, Mrs. Campbell was a classroom teacher for a combined 10 years, first at The Intergenerational School in Cleveland, where she also served as a junior cluster director, and then as a third-grade English Language Arts teacher at Canton City Schools.

“Mrs. Campbell’s experience as an elementary school teacher and administrator, coupled with her commitment to creating equitable experiences for all students, is an ideal fit for leading the Mercer Elementary School community and for advancing our District’s goal of achieving educational equity,” said Shaker Heights Schools Superintendent Dr. David Glasner. “She is a strong addition to our team and we look forward to her leadership.”

A Cleveland native, Mrs. Campbell earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Oberlin College, where she was also a member of the Women’s Basketball team and named MVP in 2008. She holds master’s degrees in early childhood education and Ohio educational leadership from Oberlin College and Concordia University Chicago, respectively. Mrs. Campbell and her husband Andre have two daughters, eight-year-old Raya and four-year-old, Aria. The family plans to move to Shaker Heights in the coming months.
