A Message from Dr. Glasner Regarding Current Events in Minnesota

April 13, 2021

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families and Students,

Once again, our students must confront important and difficult real-world issues as the Derek Chauvin trial enters its third week and as protestors gather in suburban Minneapolis after Sunday night's fatal shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright by a police officer.

These events also underscore the critical role that classroom conversations about race and social justice play in all of our students’ learning and development. In consideration of an upcoming verdict in the Chauvin trial and the ongoing protests in Minnesota, the District shares the following resources that may help guide your own discussions at home with your students:

Thank you for your continued commitment to educational equity and social justice, and for your support of our schools, our faculty and your students.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
Shaker Heights Schools
