Extended Closure Update | April 3, 2020

We’ll be sending you regular updates during this extended closure to share any new information and to remind you about previous messages we don’t want you to have missed. Some updates will be shorter and some will be longer, but we’ll be staying in touch.

Even though our schools and offices are closed, our faculty and staff are still committed to working hard each day on behalf of every student and family.

Level 3 Summary

  • The District shared information with all families on student schedules, expectations and guidelines for Level 3 distance learning. Review this information here.

  • Student Schedules: Course schedules and expectations at all grade levels include opportunities for both synchronous and asynchronous learning.

  • Grading: During the extended closure period, students will continue to regularly receive feedback, grades and assessments of their work.

  • Graduation Pathways: Per recent legislation, Districts may grant high school diplomas to students on track to graduate and for whom the local school district determines that the student has successfully completed the required curriculum. The High School Administration and Counseling Department have been reviewing student records to closely monitor every student’s pathway to graduation and to provide opportunities for each student to meet graduation expectations and standards.

What’s New

  • Woodbury Sixth-Grade Camp, the Asian Studies summer trip to Japan and the summer exchange trip to Goslar, Germany have been canceled based on federal, state and local coronavirus guidance, recommendations and travel restrictions. The District will share refund information with families when it becomes available.

  • The Shaker Heights Schools band directors have shared information with families regarding the cancellation of concerts and distance learning for band students in grades 5-12. The Band Boosters have also shared this letter with band families.

  • In response to the COVID-19 extended school closure, the District will offer online-only enrollment for the 2020-21 academic year. Parents and guardians may submit required forms electronically by computer or mobile phone. Learn about online enrollment.
